491st Bomb Squadron---

A captured Japanese A6M2 "Zeke", re-painted in Chinese Air Force (CAF) colors, with Chinese serial 'P5016'. The aircraft directly behind the 'Zeke' is a P-43 "Lancer" flown by the CAF. The aircraft are probably at Kunming--because of the 23 Fighter Group P-40 in the background on the right. (information provided by Tony Strotman)
A B-25D of the American 491st Bombardment Squadron is on the taxiway. Maintenance men who prepared it for the mission stand in the shade of tree. Small bombs, 100 pounds, are seen neatly stacked in the middle of the photo. Closer, in the center, are three 500 pound bombs. They lack the guide fins, and still have the transport 'rings'...

Several P-40 fighters pass over the runway and begin a "break out" to land at Yangkai, Yunnan province. The nose guns of an American B-25H bomber are visible at the far right of this picture taken in the CBI. See related image here.
An American B-25D bomber flies at minimum altitude, probably during training/practice of 'low-level attack techniques.' Note the triangular peak just in front of the aircraft. This is probably piled up dirt and sand bags, used as the 'target' to learn and practice, especially for 'skip bombing'. See related image here.
