Closest to viewer is Ehr Tong, the original airfield used by American Volunteer Group (AVG) 'Flying Tigers' before becoming home for 23rd Fighter Group and 11th Bomb Squadron when China Air Task Force (CATF) was activated on July 1942. The larger runway is Yang Tong Airbase, built to support heavy bombers and transports and, on at least one occasion, used as emergency landing field for B-29 Strato Fortress bombers.
